Village Masterplan for Agritourism & a Community of Artists
Study Abroad | Summer 2015
Turenscape | Xixinan Village, Anhui Province
Size: 155 acres
Project was displayed in Beijing Design Week 2015, and featured in the BUGAIK International Architecture Exhibition in Korea.
Due to extreme population density in China’s major cities, there is a growing trend to move back into the villages. The brief was to explore Xixinan Village and draft a strategic masterplan as well as complimentary architectural interventions.
Our proposal envisions agritourism and an artist community co-living with the locals. The masterplan emphasizes a connection to the water, proposing a mix of uses to activate paths along the canals.
Furthermore, the proposal applies urban acupuncture to rehabilitate vacancies found throughout the village. The concept exposes traditional Chinese structures with flexible programs that emphasize co-sharing of knowledge between locals and visitors.
